Hever Castle was one of my favourite places when I was little. Mum and Dad would take me out for picnics and castle tours, and I remember the hush inside the rooms — the red ropes guiding us, the armour standing silently in the entranceway, and Anne Boleyn’s jewels glinting behind glass.
I didn’t understand the history then, but I felt the magic of it. History was one of my most preferred subjects at school, along with Art and English Language.
Places like Hever Castle made those subjects feel alive — not just lessons in a classroom, but real stories held inside old walls.
